Dr. Bhatt’s experience and talents cover a wide array of needs within the company, including setup and oversight of the lab and product line formulations.

From Dr. Bhatt: “I obtained my doctorate in Pharmacology and Physiology at Saint Louis University with a focus on the neuromodulatory roles of serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) on a developing neural circuit in Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly. I was interested in studying how deviations in the development of neural circuitry contributed to the development of effective neurological disorders. To accomplish this, I utilize a combination of pharmacological and genetic interventions in order to manipulate neuronal levels of 5-HT and DA during embryogenesis.

To assess the efficiency of genetic manipulations, larval brains were harvested and processed in order to analytically quantitate the number of synthetic enzymes and transmitter and compared them to those of control animals. The morphology of the neural circuit as a consequence of these altered developmental levels was visualized using confocal microscopy and correlated with the functional output of the circuit. The results of these experiments contributed to the understanding of the proteins, enzymes, and signaling pathways involved in several neuropsychiatric disorders, like autism, addictive behaviors, dissociative identity disorders, major depressive disorders, and many more.”
